Assemblies, SMSC
& British Values

We have a weekly assembly that ties in with National Awareness days.  These all have an SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) focus.

SMSC and British Values

SMSC

SMSC stands for Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development, which is a framework used in UK schools to promote the overall personal growth, values, and well-being of pupils across the curriculum

Spiritual: Exploring non-material aspects of life, building personal values, and developing imagination, creativity, and a sense of awe or wonder.

Moral: Understanding right and wrong, recognizing the consequences of choices, and learning to talk about ethical and societal issues.

Social: Working well with others, building positive relationships, and joining in with local community activities.

Cultural: Understanding and appreciating different traditions, local and global heritages, and celebrating diversity while challenging prejudice

British Values

British values are a set of core standards designed to prepare children to be safe, respectful, and responsible citizens in modern Britain.

Democracy: Everyone has an equal say in how decisions are made through voting, elections, and sharing views.

The Rule of Law: Laws keep people safe, apply equally to everyone, and ensure fair justice.

Individual Liberty: People have the freedom to make their own choices and express themselves safely within the law.

Mutual Respect: People treat others with dignity, kindness, and fairness regardless of background.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs: People accept and respect others who have different religions, beliefs, or no faith at all.

We have a weekly assembly that ties in with National Awareness days.  These all have an SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) and British Values Link.

These assemblies allow pupils to explore their values, beliefs and experiences. Pupils also learn about themselves and the surrounding world. They learn the difference between right and wrong through looking at moral issues. Through these assemblies, pupils also learn about democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, tolerance and respect and the school characteristics, with a termly focus on each one.

At North Star 180°, we embed SMSC and Britsh Values throughout everything we do; from our assemblies, circle time, PSHE lessons and social times.

Each subject page shows how the subject encompasses SMSC and British Values throughout the curriculum
